This LEAD is a 2-week leadership program for youth going into (at least) grade 9 who are interested in learning about leadership, developing interpersonal skills, and learning how to take initiative in a group environment.
This program puts an emphasis on personal responsibility, teamwork, and communication skills. LEAD Participants are introduced to the camp work environment through supervised shadow placements and developing program modules for the general camp program.
This 3-week program, for campers going into (at least) grade 10 offers in-depth leadership skill development useful in school, community, and work environments. LEAD2 campers will embark on a multi-day canoe trip down the Saugeen River, led by a qualified tripper.
This program provides leadership modules in a variety of skill areas; group management strategies, program planning and implementation, hands-on support and child care strategies. With advanced placements in a variety of roles throughout the camp, participants will develop skills useful for working at camp and in future employment opportunities. Successful graduates will be eligible to apply for the new LEAD3 program, and then for employment at McGovern the following year.
LEAD3 is a three week program that focuses on further developing and refining the individual skills campers established in Lead2. They will practice and effectively demonstrate these foundational skills by running camper program periods during a regular camper session, working individually with campers, and during a 4-night, 5-day canoe trip. In running activity program periods, campers will be given time to prepare prior to the session, have a daily preparation period as well as a debrief on how the session went. The 4-night, 5-day canoe trip on the Saugeen River will emerge at Lake Huron in Southampton. In addition to the other parts of Lead3 the program periods and canoe trip are seen as critical opportunities to demonstrate the core foundations of McGovern leadership. Successful completion of Lead3 and demonstration of the foundational skills is required to be a member of the McGovern staff team.
